Futon Quality has Improved Greatly Since the Early Days

Do you remember the first futons in this country? Cheap, quickly made hollow metal futon frames that were very cheap but bent easily were all that were available then. Since this occurred in the 1940's and 1950's, you might not remember them. The futon mattresses were also cheap, 4-inch thick cotton-batting mattresses that quickly lost their shape and comfort. However, these futons were ideal for students, individuals, and families on limited budgets and filled a need in those times. Today, how those times have changed! Or have they? Customers still look for quality futons at inexpensive prices. Affordable futons has become the name of the game today.

Companies started manufacturing futon frames with a lot more quality in them. Metals improved in strength of course but some young entrepreneurs went beyond the basic metal futon frames. Two such thinkers were Mark Markos and John Widly, who started American Furniture Alliance making bean bag chairs in 1986 and started making futons a year later. They designed all-wood futon frames or wood-and-metal futon frames that were not only much stronger, but added a lot of style and beauty to the futon furniture. They also beefed up the futon mattresses with layers of coil springs and foam. Not just any foam but convoluted foam, memory foam, density foam, or even flat foam in several different configurations for a great night's sleep. These layers are wrapped in a cotton batting, ready to be covered in a colorful, yet functionally protective, futon cover. Markos and Widly do also offer a line featuring metal-frame futons - one-piece convertible lounger futon models that are as comfortable as they are pretty. This large variety of affordable futons make for truly fine pieces of furniture, perfect for any home, apartment, office or dorm room.

These inexpensive futons also feature great ease of conversion from sofa or chair, to bed, and back again. No one wants this process to be complicated and time consuming - that defeats the purpose of ease of operation. Quality futons at a great price are exactly what the customer is seeking and Family Futons' futons by American Furniture Alliance provides many choices for buying your dream futon. There is something for everyone in affordable futons these days.
